Abstract

This thesis discusses about collocation analysis realized in Chicken Soup for the Soul on Parenting by Jack canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. The objective of the study is to find out collocation in Chicken Soup for the Soul on Parenting by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen which consists of 9 short stories entitled Children Learn What They Live, Why I Chose My Father to be My Dad, The Animal School, Touched, I Love You, Son, A Mom’s Life, The Perfect American Family, Just Say It!, and A Legacy of Love. To collect the data, the writer uses descriptive qualitative and Simak Bebas Libat Cakap (SLBC) as the method of this study. The writer uses Mc.Carthy and Felicity O’dell theory to identify the collocation in the short story. The data are taken from Chicken Soup for the Soul. The writer uses some steps to analyse the data. Firstly, the writer reads the whole of the all short story to understand the story then the writer searches the collocation realizes in the short story. Next, she writes down collocation found in short story. Then, she classifies the collocation into six types of collocation. The writer analyzes the meaning of collocation found in the short story. Finally, the writer describes the analysis on collocation found by using related theory and establishes the conclusion of the analysis collocation. For the result of collocation realized in short stories, it could be concluded 80 collocations. The first dominant type is Adjective and Noun collocation which is for 35 collocations. Second dominant type is Verb and Expression with Preposition which is for 20 collocations. The third dominant type is Noun and Verb or Verb and Noun collocation which contains 11 collocations. The fourth dominant type is Noun and Noun collocation which is for 6 collocations. And the last dominant type is Verb and Adverb collocation and Adverb and Adjective collocation which are for 4 collocations for both of them.
