Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out whether using bamboo dancing method was effective to improve the students’ speaking skill in recount text or not. The population of this study was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sirampog in the academic year 2015/2016. The number of the subjects was 65 students. The samples of the study were class X3 (Sos 2) as experimental class which consisted of 32 students and class X2 (Sos 1) as control class which consisted of 33 students. The design of this study was an experimental study and used true experimental design. The writer had been collecting the data by using test (pre and post-test), questionnaires, documentation, recording and transcription. Quantitative method was used by the writer to analyze the data. The data were analyzed by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) 16 program. After the data had been collected by using tests, it was found that in Independent Samples Test between control and experimental class got score sig was 0.379 (more than 0.05) and the score from t-test and Equal Variance Assumed was 0,000 (less than 0.05). It means that both of classes had same variant but had different achievement. It could be seen from comparing the means both of the classes; it was found that the mean of experimental class was 71.75 which were higher than control class 66.54. Then the result of the mean of post-test of experimental class was 71.75 which were higher than pre-test 61.62. For that reason, it could be concluded that bamboo dancing was effective in improving the students’ speaking skill in recount text on the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sirampog in the academic year 2015/2016.
